Red Beach, Santorini
Near the archaeological site of Akrotiri lies perhaps the most famous beach ofSantorini: the much-photographed Red Beach. The crimson of the cliffs, the blue of the sea, and a striking mix of white, black, and red sand create a dramatic palette of colors in this rare island landscape. You can reach the beach either on foot from the little port of Akrotiri or by boats departing from Kamari, Akrotiri, and Perissa.
Vlychada, Santorini
The beach of Vlychadais among the largest on Santorini and is located in the southern part of the island, 11 kilometers from Fira. The tall, white volcanic cliffs that surround it and almost reach the sea resemble a science-fiction film set. These are creations of nature and have been sculpted over the centuries by rain and wind. The beach has fine black sand and dark pebbles and is organized at its beginning.
Xi, Kefalonia
Among the most distinctive beaches ofKefalonia, Xi lies in the Paliki region, south of Lixouri. The deep-red sand and clay cliffs create a landscape unique in Greece. Here you can enjoy a natural and free spa treatment, since the grey clay of the ground helps cleanse and firm the skin.
Mavra Volia, Chios
In the southern part ofChiosand more specifically about 30 km from the town and 5 km from the famed village of Pyrgi, you will find the most famous beach of the island and one of the most distinctive in the Aegean. Mavra Volia beach is a unique attraction, as its large black pebbles resulted from the eruption of a nearby (now inactive) volcano in antiquity. The waters are pristine and crystal clear with a deep dark blue color due to the black pebbles.
Sarakiniko, Milos
The «moonlike» beach ofMilosis one of the most photographed landscapes of the Aegean. Chalk-white volcanic rocks plunge into the emerald sea, creating small and large caves. You will find a small sandy cove but mostly beautiful rocks to spread your towel and dive into the crystal-blue waters. Sarakiniko lies on the north coast of Milos and is about 30 minutes from Adamas.
