The six islets known as Drenia or Gaidouronisia, opposite Ouranoupoli in Halkidiki, have enchanting landscapes, golden sandy beaches and turquoise waters that will offer you the ultimate summer relaxation.
You may not know it, but Halkidiki also has heavenly - and for many, still unknown - islets with unspoiled landscapes and beaches with turquoise waters that offer the ideal setting to unwind and enjoy the sun and sea.
Across from Ouranoupoli - or, the gateway to Mount Athos- and a short distance from Ammouliani (Halkidiki's only inhabited island), there is a cluster of 6 small and uninhabited islets that resemble paradise: Drenia or Gaidouronisia.
Drenia: Escape to Halkidiki's «Blue Lagoon»
You can visit Drenia with your own boat or by small boats from Ammouliani or the port of Ouranoupoli (the crossing takes about 15 minutes to the large islet). The complex took its name from the largest islet, Drenia. By renting a boat you can also visit the smaller islets, Feti, Penna, Artemis, etc. They're not called Halkidiki's «Caribbean» and «Blue Lagoon» by chance. In Drenia you'll find beautiful shallow, sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters, as well as steep rocky shores, from where Mount Athos is visible in the distance.
On the largest islet the beach is organized and there is a bar and a taverna where you can savor fish and seafood caught from the bay of Mount Athos. On the other islets there are no facilities. The two smallest of the six islets have small «private» beaches, with rocks forming little pools with shallow waters. Don't forget to bring a mask and fins to explore the rich seabed.
