Do not confuse coffeeshops with cafés
The coffeeshops of Amsterdam are not the classic cafés we have in mind. The city is known for its more relaxed laws and rules concerning marijuana, and the places where the purchase and consumption of cannabis are freely permitted are these specific establishments. So, if you simply want to drink your coffee, do not choose to visit a coffee shop, but look for something else!
Do not walk in the bike lanes
Amsterdam is a city of bicycles and the bike lanes (fietspaden) are not sidewalks. The city is world-renowned for its cycling culture, with infrastructure and dedicated lanes that have been built since the 19th century. In any case, as pedestrians you should be very careful not to walk in a bike lane, not to stop for photos and not to dawdle. The least that will happen is you will hear the bell of a bicycle, but even worse there could be an accident.
Do not carry only a card
In Amsterdam most shops accept cards. However, you may come across souvenir shops or restaurants that accept only cash. So, in any case it is a good idea to have some with you for your purchases or for tips in restaurants.
Do not rent a bike without knowing the rules

Do not take photos in the Red Light District
